Three More October 4 Unrest Defendants Freed Through Plea Deals, Including 72-Year-Old Doctor

The Court of Appeals approved plea agreements for three defendants convicted over the October 4, 2025 election-day unrest: Nika Gventsadze and Zakro Albutashvili each had five-year sentences reduced to one year plus three years' probation, and 72-year-old pediatrician Giorgi Chakhunashvili had his sentence cut to three months plus three years' probation and was released directly from the courtroom. Gventsadze and Albutashvili are expected to leave prison within weeks. Roughly 60 people were charged in connection with the October 4 unrest.
