34 Countries Tell UN Human Rights Council Georgia's Rights Situation Is Deteriorating
At the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, a bloc of 34 states -- including every EU member state, the UK, Ukraine, Canada, Australia and New Zealand -- delivered a joint statement, read by Lithuanian diplomat Ausra Semaskieme, warning of Georgia's 'further deteriorating' human rights situation since November 2024 and demanding the immediate release of arbitrarily detained government critics, repeal of repressive laws, and genuine dialogue with civil society.
