Adjara TV Journalist Detained After Reporting Repeated Attacks

| Georgia Crisis

Adjara TV host Koba Partenadze, who had reported being physically attacked and threatened with a knife in Batumi over several days (including a homophobic-slur assault on Aug 9-10 that led to two arrests), was himself detained on Aug 17 while being questioned as a witness. Police charged him with petty hooliganism and disobeying a police officer; the Batumi City Court fined him 2,000 GEL. The Charter of Journalistic Ethics called for urgent protection of Partenadze rather than his prosecution.
