Commonwealth Fusion Systems Announces Hyundai Motor Group as Investor in $1B Raise

| Fusion Energy

Commonwealth Fusion Systems announced on September 10, 2026 that Hyundai Motor Group participated as an investor in CFS's previously announced $1 billion fundraise (closed July 30, 2026), the largest single funding round in fusion industry history since CFS's own $1.8B Series B in 2021. Hyundai's specific commitment was not disclosed. The companies said they will explore collaboration opportunities on future ARC power plant development, with Hyundai contributing industrial, engineering, and infrastructure expertise, and the partnership is expected to support fusion energy advancement in Korea under the country's '7 SEED' initiative. Hyundai joins a roster of Asia-Pacific investors in CFS including Woori Venture Partners (Korea), a Japanese consortium led by Mitsui & Co. and Mitsubishi Corporation, Temasek (Singapore), and Hostplus (Australia). CFS has now raised $4B total since its 2018 founding — roughly 30% of all private fusion investment globally.
