UK Infinity Fusion Consortium Launched by Type One Energy, Tokamak Energy, and AECOM
On May 6, 2026, Type One Energy (Madison, WI), Tokamak Energy (UK), and AECOM (global engineering) announced the UK Infinity Fusion Consortium — a partnership to develop the UK's first private-sector commercial fusion power plant. The consortium combines Type One Energy's 400 MWe Infinity Two stellarator design (a field-period-optimized stellarator), Tokamak Energy's high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet manufacturing expertise, and AECOM's engineering and infrastructure services. The announcement mirrors Type One Energy's existing US project at Tennessee Valley Authority's Bull Run site in Tennessee, targeting commercial operations by 2034. The UK project uses the same Infinity Two design and benefits from economies of scale across both programs. The launch was timed to US Fusion Energy Week (May 4–10, 2026) and underscores growing private-sector engagement with the UK's £2.5 billion National Fusion Energy Strategy announced in April 2026.
