Second Round of Ocean Discharge Completed; IAEA Monitoring Confirms Compliance

| Fukushima

TEPCO completed the second round of ALPS-treated water discharge in early October 2023, having released approximately 7,800 m³ across the first two discharge periods. Independent monitoring by IAEA and national agencies in Japan, Korea, China, and international bodies confirmed tritium levels in seawater samples near the discharge point were far below detection limits or well within limits. TEPCO's daily samples showed consistent results. The fisheries union (JFUA) reiterated opposition despite the data, citing consumer confidence as irreparably damaged.
