Parliament Definitively Adopts €36bn Military Spending Boost

The National Assembly gave final approval to the updated military programming law (loi de programmation militaire), voting 375 in favor to 113 against on a Senate-Assembly compromise text. The update adds €36 billion in additional defense investment through 2030, bringing total planned military spending to €436 billion — aiming to push the defense budget toward 2.5% of GDP. Priorities include replenishing missile stocks, expanding drone and counter-drone capabilities, and accelerating procurement in response to the war in Ukraine and broader European security concerns. President Macron was expected to sign the bill into law around Bastille Day.
