EU Extends Russia Human Rights Sanctions Framework Until May 2027
The EU Council formally extended the Russia human rights sanctions framework for another year, running until May 28, 2027. The measures apply to 72 individuals and one entity responsible for serious human rights violations in Russia, including the repression of civil society, political opposition, and independent media. All listed persons are subject to asset freezes and EU entry bans. The renewal comes as Russia continues to imprison political opponents and human rights defenders. The decision was adopted without debate as an 'A' item on the Council's agenda.
