Africa CDC said 20 September 2026 that it welcomes the United States' decision to convene a G20+ Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Accelerating Collective Action to Defeat Ebola, scheduled for 23 September in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly. Director-General Dr. Jean Kaseya said he would represent Africa CDC and the African Union's 55 member states and 1.5 billion Africans at the meeting, which was set to bring together the governments of DRC and Uganda, G20 members, partner countries and international organizations to mobilize support, strengthen coordination and accelerate the response. Africa CDC cautioned that 'transmission remains active, progress is uneven, and continued geographic expansion reinforces the risk of further spread,' calling the moment 'a moment to reinforce the response — not to relax it.' Kaseya said 'transparency builds trust, accelerates delivery and saves lives,' urging partners to convert 'solidarity into faster, transparent and accountable delivery' backed by proper financial tracking mechanisms. The statement noted Uganda's outbreak ended successfully on 27 August while DRC's continues active transmission, and highlighted Africa CDC's village-centered response approach emphasizing community engagement and trust-building.
