WHO Situation Report: DRC Ebola Cases Reach 4,381, Deaths Cross 2,011

WHO's Regional Office for Africa published Weekly External Situation Report 13 (data as of 9 August 2026), recording 4,381 cumulative confirmed cases and 2,011 cumulative deaths — a case fatality ratio of 45.9% — an increase of 579 confirmed cases and 304 deaths since the prior weekly report. Ituri Province alone accounted for 85.8% of cumulative cases and 80.6% of cumulative deaths. DRC Ministry of Health data for the same date recorded 704 patients hospitalized in isolation, 86.7% of identified contacts under active follow-up, and 53 of 140 health zones affected across the five provinces (Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uélé, Tshopo) — an increase of 172 confirmed cases and 95 deaths from the 8 August report alone. The outbreak, 86 days since its 15 May declaration, remains the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record.
