US CDC Issues Health Advisory, Enhanced Ebola Screening at US Entry Points
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) notice designating the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in DRC and Uganda a significant concern for travelers. The US announced enhanced entry screening protocols and travel health notices for DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan. CDC's Ebola Emergency Operations Team was deployed to Kinshasa and Kampala. The notice followed the confirmation of the first American infection (Dr. Peter Stafford) and the expansion of cases to Kampala. CDC Director Dr. Satish Pillai stated the threat to the US 'remains low' but emphasized the importance of enhanced surveillance.
