Kenya Expands Digital Literacy Programme Phase II to 10,382 Junior Schools Nationwide

Kenya's ICT Authority, under the World Bank-supported Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), held a rollout event at Nyaribo Junior School in Nyeri County on September 22, 2026 to launch the next phase of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) — expanding devices (interactive smart boards and teacher laptops), connectivity and digital skills training to 377 public junior schools across Nyeri County as part of a nationwide Phase II push covering 10,382 junior schools in all 47 counties. Over 62,000 teachers have been trained nationally to date to integrate digital tools into classroom instruction. Amb. Dr. Caroline W. Karugu, Principal Secretary for the State Department for East African Community Affairs, said 'Digital technologies are making learning more engaging and improving knowledge sharing across schools'; Thomas O. Odhiambo represented ICT Authority CEO Jessy Kiveu Maruti at the event.
