SpaceX Targets May 19 for Starship Version 3 Debut — A Key Milestone for Next-Generation Starlink Constellation Capacity
SpaceX announced on May 12–14, 2026 that it is targeting no earlier than May 19 for the debut of Starship Version 3 and the new Launch Pad 2 at Starbase, Texas. While primarily an infrastructure test, Starship V3 carries direct strategic significance for digital inclusion: Starship is the planned heavy-lift vehicle for deploying the next-generation Starlink V3 constellation, which will operate at 340–360 km altitude with massively increased capacity and direct-to-cell capabilities at scale. The Starship V3 design incorporates upgraded Raptor 3 engines and a longer payload bay capable of carrying up to 120 Starlink V3 satellites per launch — compared to ~22 V1.5 satellites per Falcon 9. A successful debut would dramatically accelerate the timeline for Starlink's capacity expansion in underserved regions, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and rural Latin America. SpaceNews and Spaceflight Now reported the announcement, with space analysts noting the new Launch Pad 2 enables back-to-back launches within weeks.
