Kenya Launches National AI and Robotics Youth Initiative in ITU Five-Country Africa Programme

| Digital Inclusion

The Communications Authority of Kenya, in partnership with the ITU, the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, and the Ministry of Education, announced a national initiative on May 12, 2026 to push AI and robotics education for young Kenyans aged 10–18. The programme includes innovation hubs, robotics competitions, teacher training workshops (Training of Trainers), distribution of robotics kits to schools, and national innovation showcases. Kenya is part of the ITU's five-country Africa AI and Robotics Youth Training Programme rollout spanning Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa — a coordinated effort to embed AI competency in secondary education systems across the continent's largest digital economies. The initiative directly targets the skills dimension of Africa's 63% mobile internet usage gap by building technology confidence among youth with network coverage but low digital competency.
