Rocha Moya Takes Leave of Absence as Sinaloa Governor
Rubén Rocha Moya requested a temporary leave of absence from the Sinaloa state Congress on May 2, 2026, three days after the U.S. indictment, to focus on contesting the accusations. The state Congress approved the request and named Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde interim governor. Rocha Moya said he had 'a clear conscience' and would fight the charges. Mexico's Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) opened a parallel domestic investigation limited to the specific crimes named in the U.S. extradition request.
