Italy Imposes Full National Lockdown
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announces a national quarantine, the first in Europe's modern history. All non-essential movement is banned; non-essential businesses close. By mid-March, northern Italy's ICUs are overwhelmed, with doctors forced to make life-and-death triage decisions. Over 800 Italians die in a single day at the peak.
