ICRC: 2025 Was Colombia's Worst Year for Conflict Humanitarian Impact in a Decade
The International Committee of the Red Cross released its annual Colombia report documenting that 2025 saw the worst humanitarian consequences of Colombia's internal conflict in ten years, with displacement, disappearances, and explosive device injuries all sharply rising. Most critically, the number of people internally displaced by armed conflict effectively doubled year-over-year in 2025, reversing years of gradual improvement. The ICRC specifically flagged the ongoing armed conflict in Chocó, Cauca, Catatumbo (Norte de Santander), and Putumayo as hotspots. The report attributed the worsening situation to the collapse of ELN ceasefire negotiations following the Catatumbo massacre in January 2025 and the continued expansion of armed dissident groups during the Total Peace dialogue process.
