IEA World Energy Investment 2026: Solar to Hit $365 Billion — Clean Energy Commands Majority of Global Power Spending
The IEA's World Energy Investment 2026 annual report confirmed that solar PV investment alone is on track to reach $365 billion in 2026 — with total renewable energy investment reaching $665 billion. Global energy investments in electricity supply and infrastructure are expected to reach $1.6 trillion, rising to $2 trillion when including end-use electrification. Battery storage spending is projected to exceed $100 billion for the first time, and grid infrastructure spending is approaching $550 billion. For the first time, clean energy commands the majority of all global energy investment spending. The report also found India's energy investment is on track for a record $170 billion in 2026, growing at an average of 11% annually over five years, with solar PV investment rising 25% annually. Clean energy investment is now cutting global emissions and avoiding an estimated $260 billion in fossil fuel import costs annually. The IEA confirmed India met its NDC target of 50% non-fossil fuel installed capacity in 2025, five years ahead of schedule.
