ENGIE Brings France's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Online: 500 MW EMYN Fully Operational off Yeu and Noirmoutier Islands
The 500 MW EMYN (Éoliennes en Mer Îles d'Yeu et de Noirmoutier) offshore wind farm reached full operational status on May 6, 2026, with all 61 bottom-fixed turbines installed and generating — making it France's largest offshore wind installation. Located in the Atlantic Ocean off the Vendée coast (between the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier), EMYN generates enough electricity to cover the annual needs of approximately 800,000 people, representing a significant contribution to France's target of 40 GW of offshore wind by 2050. The project was developed by Ocean Winds, a 50/50 joint venture between ENGIE and EDP Renewables. EMYN's construction mobilized over 200 companies from the Pays de la Loire region and created approximately 2,400 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase. The farm reached first power in late 2025 and ramped up through the commissioning of all 61 turbines in the subsequent months. Together with the simultaneous first power from the EFGL floating wind pilot (May 5), France activated both its first operational offshore wind farm and its first floating offshore wind farm within 24 hours — a landmark moment for the country's offshore renewable sector, which had lagged European peers due to lengthy permitting delays.
