Science Panel for Global Energy Transition (SPGET) Launched at Santa Marta
The Science Panel for the Global Energy Transition (SPGET) was officially launched on April 24, 2026 in Santa Marta, convened by renowned climate scientists Johan Rockström (Stockholm Resilience Centre) and Carlos Nobre (University of São Paulo), with backing from Brazil's COP30 Presidency. SPGET will develop country- and sector-level emissions milestones aligned with 1.5°C pathways and provide evidence-based guidance for fossil fuel phase-out policies — functioning as an independent scientific advisory body to the growing coalition of nations committed to transitioning away from oil, gas, and coal. A draft fossil fuel phase-out roadmap for Colombia was also unveiled at the launch event as a model for other fossil fuel-producing nations.
