28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo Opens — AI Robots, L4 Autonomous Vehicles, and Domestic Chip Innovations Confirm China's Physical AI Deployment Maturity
The 28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) opened on May 8, 2026 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, running through May 10, with the theme 'Technology Drives Progress, Innovation Shapes the Future.' Over 800 Chinese and foreign technology exhibitors filled six exhibition zones: Information Technology, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Green/Low-Carbon Technology, Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Economy, and Regional Innovation. The expo is one of China's most important annual technology showcases, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Beijing municipal government — a direct showcase of 15th Five-Year Plan AI deployment progress. Key technology demonstrations highlighted the maturity of China's physical AI deployment: L4-level autonomous RoboBus vehicles demonstrated full-autonomy in controlled environments; 4D Gaussian Splatting reconstruction technology (an AI-driven 3D scene capture system) showcased new capabilities for digital twin and metaverse applications; and Huaxia Bailing AI Smart Headphones demonstrated on-device AI processing for real-time translation and noise cancellation. The intelligent manufacturing and robotics zone drew particular attention, showcasing bionic robotic hands capable of fine motor tasks, multi-joint industrial arms with AI vision systems, and UAV simulation systems with integrated AI flight control. The expo featured more than 20 concurrent trade and investment matching events, including a China-EU Carbon Neutrality Technology Matching Conference and regional innovation showcases from all 31 Chinese provinces and municipalities. CHITEC 2026's scale reflects the full deployment of China's 'AI+' action plan — intelligent manufacturing, autonomous transportation, and AI-embedded industrial hardware no longer in prototype stage but commercially deployed across sectors including logistics, healthcare, and industrial automation. The exhibition occurs one week after China's tech stock benchmark hit an all-time record high on May 6, reinforcing the convergence of market enthusiasm and state industrial strategy in China's physical AI ecosystem.
