President Kast met Venezuelan acting leader Delcy Rodríguez in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly, the first direct dialogue between the two governments since Chile broke diplomatic relations in 2024 under then-president Boric over disputed Venezuelan election results. The meeting focused on the status of Venezuelan migrants in an irregular situation in Chile and on consular relations restored in early August as a preliminary step toward eventual full diplomatic normalization. Kast said afterward: "Lo que buscamos es que Venezuela se recupere" (what we're seeking is for Venezuela to recover), framing the outreach around migration management rather than political rapprochement.
