At First Te Deum, Cardinal Presses Kast on Corruption and 'the Vulnerable'

President Kast led his first Ecumenical Te Deum as head of state at Santiago's Metropolitan Cathedral, where Santiago Archbishop Cardinal Fernando Chomalí delivered a 20-plus-minute homily before the country's assembled authorities centered on violence, security, corruption and the 'centrality of the vulnerable' in national policymaking, and a separate voice at the ceremony's opening said 'there are still towns waiting for help.' Social Development Minister María Jesús Wulf responded on the government's behalf, saying the administration was working on the low birth rate and family-strengthening issues the cardinal raised. Kast told reporters afterward Chileans should 'raise hope' because the country 'can stand up again and again,' and promised that 'not only will everything be fine, it will be much better.'
