Government Does Not Take Ceuta Returns Decree-Law to Council of Ministers

The decree-law meant to speed returns to Morocco of people who arrived in Ceuta since July 30 was not on the Sep 29 Council of Ministers agenda, despite reports it would go that day. Sumar's spokesperson said its ministers prevented the text from reaching the table. Interior Minister Ángel Víctor Torres said returns must follow established procedures and filings must be completed first. PP's Elías Bendodo said there was time and it was 'a matter of will'. A coalition of 12 organisations including CEAR and Oxfam Intermón warned the draft's 5-day appeal window and 'implicit withdrawal' dismissals could undermine asylum protections.
