Over 3,000 Migrants Moved to New Port Reception Camp With Capacity for Just 1,700

Police began transferring migrants from the El Trampolín and Benítez beach encampments to the new temporary reception camp on Ceuta port's Poniente dock early Friday, after Spain's National Court on Wednesday rejected a police union's bid to block the facility's opening. More than 3,000 people were moved but the camp holds only around 1,700, producing chaotic scenes as people rushed to secure places and police repeatedly intervened to enforce cordons; government sources characterised the overall operation as proceeding normally despite the tension. Officials revised their estimate of migrants still in Ceuta sharply upward to 9,000-10,000 — roughly double the previously cited 5,000 figure — with about 6,000 now in official facilities and 3,000-4,000 still on the streets or beaches. PP leader Miguel Tellado called Ceuta 'a city without law' fifty days after the crossing and demanded all migrants be returned to Morocco, while Sumar criticised police use of force against migrants during the transfer.
