Ceuta Assembly Declares City 'On the Verge of Collapse'; Spain Asks Frontex, Europol and EUAA to Reinforce Migrant Triage

Ceuta's Assembly unanimously declared the enclave in an 'extreme situation, on the verge of collapse.' Mayor Juan Vivas said 'Ceuta has lost its way of life and its calm. We do not have much time to avert disaster.' The same day, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska formally asked the European Commission for Frontex, Europol and the EU Asylum Agency (EUAA) to reinforce the 'triage' and processing of migrants still in Ceuta, requesting an extension of Frontex's Operation Minerva (covering Algeciras, Tarifa and Ceuta) past its September 2 end date, 10 additional Frontex officers, and EUAA interview/interpreter support. The Interior Ministry separately announced reinforcements including extended breakwaters, maritime buoys, drone surveillance and intervention vessels after a third consecutive day of resident unrest, burned migrant belongings, a stone-injured soldier and multiple arrests.
