CNTE Teachers' March and Pemex-CFE Pensioners' Protest Paralyze CDMX — 36 Disruptions Citywide

| CDMX

Two major mobilizations converged on Mexico City on Monday, May 25. The CNTE (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación) — Mexico's independent teachers' union — led a march departing from the Ángel de la Independencia on Paseo de la Reforma at 9:00 AM, advancing toward the Zócalo where members established a formal plantón (sit-in). The CNTE has maintained ongoing pressure throughout the 2025-2026 school year over federal education evaluation reforms under the Sheinbaum government. Simultaneously, retired workers from Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) held demonstrations at multiple points across the city, demanding the restoration of 'pensiones doradas' — the premium pension benefits that distinguished energy sector retirees and were phased out under AMLO-era fiscal austerity measures. In total, authorities catalogued 2 formal marches, 10 concentrations, 14 sit-ins, and 7 formal meetings citywide — 36 protest events affecting boroughs including Cuauhtémoc, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo, Álvaro Obregón, and Coyoacán. Heavily disrupted corridors included Paseo de la Reforma, Eje 1 Norte, and the historic center approaches to the Zócalo.
