ANTAC Mega-March Shuts Down Paseo de la Reforma; Truckers and Farmers Demand Highway Security

| CDMX

The National Association of Transporters (ANTAC) and the National Front for the Rescue of Mexican Agriculture (FNRCM) staged a mega-march on May 20, drawing between 6,000 and 10,000 participants from at least 20 states — including Morelos, Guanajuato, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Michoacán, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, and Guerrero. The demonstration assembled at the Ángel de la Independencia at 09:00 and marched toward the Senate of the Republic along Paseo de la Reforma. Heavy vehicles were prohibited from entering the capital to avoid total gridlock; participants marched on foot. Police blocked the contingent at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Eje 2 Norte, triggering scuffles between SSC elements and farmers attempting to advance their tractor-trucks. The confrontation briefly raised tensions but was contained without major injuries. Protesters' main demands included: enhanced highway security against cargo theft rings, justice for dozens of truck drivers killed or disappeared, agricultural support and fair pricing policies, decent pensions for elderly workers, and an end to impunity for cartel extortion networks along key freight corridors. The march was one of 32 concurrent protests documented across CDMX that day, generating one of the most significant traffic disruptions on the capital's main boulevard since the CNTE teachers' march of May 15.
