CIFFC Drops National Preparedness to Level 2 in Season's Final Situation Report

The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre's September 16 national situation report — the last weekly report of the 2026 season — lowered the National Preparedness Level from 3 to 2, meaning resources within most agencies are adequate for light-to-moderate demand and there are currently no priority fires nationally. CIFFC said fire count and area burned are now about the 10-year average or just below for this time of year. A full season summary will follow later in the fall, with weekly national situation reporting set to resume in spring 2027.
