131 Zetas Members Escape From Coahuila Prison
More than 131 prisoners — most of them Los Zetas members — escape from the Piedras Negras federal prison in Coahuila through a front door, allegedly with guard cooperation. It is one of the largest prison escapes in Mexican history and exposes catastrophic corruption within Coahuila's prison system, which investigators later link to the state government's protection of the Zetas cartel.
