PG&E Expands V2G Program to Tesla, Volvo, and Nissan EVs with Up to $17,000 in Customer Incentives

Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) expanded its vehicle-to-grid (V2X) program on September 3, 2026, adding Tesla, Volvo, and Nissan EVs to its bidirectional charging pilot alongside previously supported vehicles. Enrolled customers can receive up to $17,000 in incentives for participating in grid-balancing events, where their EV batteries discharge power back to the California grid during peak demand. The expansion accelerates bidirectional grid integration in California and builds on growing utility interest in using distributed EV batteries as virtual power plants. V2G technology allows utilities to tap the aggregated storage capacity of enrolled EVs to smooth demand spikes, reducing the need for peaker plants.
