Sheinbaum Seeks UN Support; Former GIEI Experts Invited to Return

President Claudia Sheinbaum formally requested the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to propose international specialists to evaluate the Ayotzinapa investigation. Former GIEI experts Ángela Buitrago and Carlos Martín Beristain were invited to return in a support capacity. A new investigative strategy using phone-record analysis from September 26, 2014 had already yielded 10+ arrests in November 2025 following court-ordered access to Iguala funeral homes and the local morgue.
