Artemis II Commander Wiseman, Pilot Glover Move to NASA Emeritus Status

NASA announced on September 9, 2026 that Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman and pilot Victor Glover are transitioning to the agency's emeritus program at Johnson Space Center, ending their active-astronaut careers roughly five months after their April 1–10, 2026 lunar flyby. As emeritus astronauts they will mentor current NASA workforce and support Artemis missions in a part-time consultant capacity while pursuing outside opportunities; Glover has taken a leadership position at his alma mater, California Polytechnic State University. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said both "exemplify the leadership, character, and commitment that define NASA at its best." Glover said, "I'm excited to keep uplifting my friends and cheering them on as they reach for the Moon," while Wiseman said, "There is no better place to work ... than those in this agency." Their move follows CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen's July 6, 2026 retirement announcement, leaving mission specialist Christina Koch as the only Artemis II crew member still on NASA's active astronaut roster.
