Artemis II Crew Arrives in Ottawa — Meets PM Carney, Canadian Museum of Nature, Sold-Out NAC 'Meet the Crew' Event
All four Artemis II crew members traveled to Ottawa, Canada on May 13, 2026 — the crew's first official visit to Canada since the April 1–10 mission. The event-filled day was organized by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and centered on Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, who became the first non-American astronaut on a lunar trajectory when Artemis II completed the farthest human journey from Earth in more than 50 years. The crew's Ottawa itinerary included: (1) a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney — recognizing Canada's role in Artemis as both a crewed-mission contributor and Artemis Accords signatory; (2) a visit to the Canadian Museum of Nature with school students, where the crew spoke about lunar exploration and science; and (3) a sold-out evening 'Meet the Artemis II Crew' reception and talk at the National Arts Centre. The Ottawa visit underscores Canada's historic contribution to Artemis II and strengthens bilateral support for ongoing Artemis Accords cooperation. Canada holds a crew seat on Artemis missions in exchange for the Canadarm3 contribution; following Gateway's cancellation at NASA's March 24 'Ignition' event, Canadian officials and NASA are renegotiating how Canada's hardware investment will be applied within the revised lunar surface base architecture targeting 2028.
