President Milei's government submitted the 'National Sovereignty Defense Law' bill to Congress, toughening penalties — including 5-to-20-year disqualifications — on companies, shareholders, and suppliers involved in unauthorized natural resource activity in the Falklands and on Argentina's continental shelf. The bill amends Law 26,659 and follows Argentina's opening of sanctions proceedings against roughly 60 companies and individuals linked to offshore oil exploration around the islands. Milei called the bill 'a milestone in the process of recovering' the Malvinas.
