Monthly Inflation Slows to 1.7% in August, Lowest Reading in 14 Months

INDEC reported August consumer prices rose 1.7% month-on-month, the lowest monthly reading in 14 months and down from 2.1% in July. Annual inflation eased to 33.5% from 33.8%, with cumulative 2026 inflation at 21.3%. Core inflation held at 1.8%, driven by housing, rents and services, while regulated prices (electricity, gas, transport, private healthcare) rose 2.2%. Economists said the print reflects easing price pressure amid soft growth and a stable peso, even as a QSocial Big Data survey found 48% of Argentines still rate the economic situation as poor and 75% of households report cutting spending to make ends meet.
