ATxSummit 2026 Singapore: ASEAN Youth AI Challenge Highlights Accessibility Tools; SingHealth Signs AI Healthcare MoUs with Bhutan and A*STAR
The ATxSummit 2026 conference opened in Singapore on May 19, 2026, with a focus on harnessing AI for public good across ASEAN. The inaugural AI Ready ASEAN Youth Challenge showcased 11 finalist projects from 9 countries, with standout accessibility and healthcare applications: Cambodia's Voha.ai speech recognition tool helps hearing-impaired children learn pronunciation; Brunei's ΣHAI platform uses speech, language, and video AI for early dementia detection with personalized caregiver guidance; and Myanmar's Future Flux deploys offline AI education for rural students using edge computing. At the SingHealth AI in Health Symposium (a pre-event), two significant MoUs were signed: SingHealth and Bhutan's Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology will deploy MerMED-FM — an AI chest radiograph model for detecting pneumonia, tuberculosis, and cancer — across Bhutan's healthcare system starting 2027; and Singapore General Hospital and A*STAR's Diagnostics Development Hub partnered to commercialize AI-enabled precision diagnostics targeting antimicrobial resistance and early memory loss detection. The summit drew delegates from across Southeast Asia with a shared commitment to directing AI capability toward health equity, digital inclusion, and agricultural productivity.
