WFP Launches HungerMap Live — AI-Powered Food Security Intelligence Platform for 50+ Countries

The World Food Programme launched HungerMap Live on April 16, a modernized next-generation digital intelligence platform that integrates food security data with AI-assisted predictive forecasting across more than 50 countries and 16 identified Hunger Hotspots. The platform consolidates insights from 300+ analysts and humanitarian partners, combining satellite imagery, market price data, conflict indicators, and weather forecasts to generate early warnings of emerging food crises. A key upgrade from the prior HungerMap is the AI-assisted anticipatory action capability: the system now identifies deteriorating food security trajectories weeks before they reach crisis level, enabling WFP and partners to pre-position resources and activate early interventions. Independent studies cited by WFP show that anticipatory humanitarian action yields a 7-to-1 return on investment compared to reactive emergency response — meaning earlier AI-triggered alerts directly translate to greater lives saved per dollar spent. The platform is freely accessible to all humanitarian organizations and national governments.
