China Announces Afghanistan and Pakistan Agree to Explore 'Comprehensive Solution' to Border Conflict
China's foreign ministry announced that Afghanistan and Pakistan had agreed to explore a 'comprehensive solution' to their armed conflict following the Urumqi talks. Both sides committed to avoiding escalatory actions and continuing dialogue facilitated by Beijing. The announcement represented the most significant diplomatic development since the conflict began on February 26, 2026. China pledged to continue its mediating role. Oman, which has maintained back-channel communications with both parties, welcomed the announcement. Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi stated Afghanistan wanted to resolve tensions through dialogue and mutual understanding. However, analysts cautioned that the fundamental dispute over TTP's presence on Afghan soil — the core trigger for Pakistan's Operation Ghazab-il-Haq — remained unresolved, and Pakistani military operations continued on the ground even as diplomats negotiated in Urumqi.
