Cause of death is under investigation, and DHS declined to confirm whether the legally required 12-hour intake health screening occurred. Wei is the 57th immigrant detainee to die since Trump's second term began (24 in calendar 2026 alone) and at least the fifth Chinese national to die in ICE/CBP custody since March 2025.
